Here’s the question for you – how to market a book effectively when there are so many books out there?
I hope you’re already aware by now that your book isn’t going to sell itself no matter how well-written it is.
Having a well-written book alone isn’t going to move the needle when you don’t do marketing of any kind.
Even if you have no qualms in doing marketing for your book, it can still be hard to know which ones you should do considering the result tends to vary from one author to another.
If there’s one thing you have to do, then there’s no doubt it has to be building an email list, hands down.
But what else you can do apart from that?
If you want to know how to market a book in a way that it stands out among the crowd, then this How to Market a Book by Ricardo Fayet is the answer.
What How to Market a Book is all about
Here’s the book description that I got from Amazon.
Writing a book is hard. Marketing it can be even harder.
Marketing a book in 2023 can seem like a full-time job, what with the crazy number of things authors seem to be expected to do: social media, blog tours, advertising, price promotions, mailing lists, giveaways, you name it.
But here’s a little secret: you don’t need to do all those things to successfully set your book on the path to success. What you need is a solid plan to find the one or two tactics that will work, and start to drive sales… in a minimum amount of time. And that’s exactly what you’ll find in this book.
Instead of drowning you in information or inundating you with hundreds of different tactics and strategies that eventually prove fruitless, this book will guide you through a step-by-step framework to find the ones that actually work for you and your book, so that you can start marketing more efficiently.
In particular, you’ll learn:
✔️How to change your mindset and sell more books with less effort.;
✔️ How to write books that guarantee a lasting, profitable career;
✔️ How to get Amazon’s Kindle Store to market your book for you;
✔️ How to get thousands of readers into your mailing list before you even release the book;
✔️ How to propel your book to the top of the charts at launch; and
✔️ How to automate your marketing so that you can spend less time marketing and more time writing,After helping over 150,000 authors crack the marketing code through a popular weekly newsletter, Reedsy’s Co-founder Ricardo Fayet is sharing everything he’s learned over the past few years in this beginner-friendly, jargon-free guide to book marketing.

What got me to read the book
Well, who doesn’t want to know how to market a book with less effort?
As much as I already know which book marketing strategies that are worth pursuing and which ones are total duds, I still find this book intriguing.
What’s more, I have no reason NOT to read the book when the book itself is free on Amazon.
Of course, you will still need to pay if you want to get the book in print. But the digital version of the book is free, though.
What makes How to Market a Book worth reading
Take a look at this guide here and you’ll notice there are many ways for you to market your book.
Sure, you can take what I prefer to do which are blogging and building an email list, and run with it.
But you still need to understand the marketing fundamentals. None of those book marketing strategies matter if you don’t understand what drives the sales in the first place.
This is where the book comes in.
It gives you a basic understanding of book marketing such as understanding your target audience, how Amazon works, and of course, how to build your email list effectively.
As you can tell, a book like this will give you a bird’s eye view of all the available marketing options, not just email marketing and paid advertising.
If you’re wondering what else you can do to market your book, then you’ll find these chapters interesting.
Things like turning the book into an audiobook, releasing them as a box set if you’re writing a series, and entering the foreign market through the translation rights.
If you’re new to publishing, then those chapters sure do open you up to all sorts of possibilities that you can do with your book.
What you should know about the book
Even if the book does a good job of narrowing down the book marketing strategies to a few things, it can still be overwhelming to many of us.
So, which one you should pursue now that you have so many options to choose from?
Well, I should say pick one or two things to get started and do it until you get the result you want.
Yes, I admit it’s tempting to try them all at once since you never know which one can bring you the best result.
But it won’t do you any good if your focus is all over the place.
Not only that you wasted your money in the process. But you wasted your time too which is something that you can never get back.
If you’re not sure which one to get started, then focus on building your email list first and foremost.
Stick with it and you’re bound to see the result after some time.
Who should read the book?
On the surface, the book seems to benefit the beginner a lot more than the seasoned author considering that it only covers the fundamentals of book marketing.
But I beg to differ on that.
Yes, the book will still benefit the seasoned author just as much as the beginner author.
So, don’t dismiss this book just yet if you’re a seasoned author.
I’m sure that you’ll learn something new even if the topics covered in this book are fundamentals to you.
Remember that you can make any strategy work for you if you have a full grasp of the fundamentals.
This book sure is a good start if you need something that can help you to freshen up your book marketing fundamentals.
Where to buy the book
