Okay, I’m slightly shaking up for this month’s Small Business Deals: November 2024 Edition post.
Don’t worry, I’m still going to talk about amazing deals that you don’t want to miss for your author business.
But I figure I should discuss it here, considering how many times I’ve mentioned this company and its services on this blog.
Yes, we’re talking about the debacle between WP Engine and WordPress.
If you’ve been reading my blog long enough, I’m sure you’ve seen me recommending WP Engine many times on this blog.
But with all the drama between WP Engine and WordPress, it makes me feel icky to promote WP Engine here moving forward.
Besides, there’s no point for me to promote WP Engine when you can’t even update your WordPress core and plugins when your website is on WP Engine.
With no end in sight for this debacle, we wonder if there is any other WordPress hosting that is just as good, if not better, than WP Engine.
Knowing my answer, of course, the answer is yes.
If you’re looking for good WP Engine alternatives, these are worth considering.
SetraHost
This hosting shouldn’t come as a surprise to many of you considering this is the hosting that I currently use on both of my websites.
Well, I have no reason to complain here when the price I pay for SetraHost is less than what I have to pay for my hosting on HostGator.
What’s more, it has better specs than what I got at HostGator too.
If you want something similar to WP Engine but at a much lower price and better specs, then you can’t go wrong with SetraHost.
Are you new to SetraHost? You can learn more about it right here:
Namecheap
You may know Namecheap as the place for you to get a domain name. But domain names aren’t the only thing you can get at Namecheap.
You can even get web and email hosting at Namecheap too.
Unlike SetraHost which only offers shared and WordPress hosting, Namecheap also offers dedicated servers and VPS hosting in addition to shared and WordPress hosting.
Of course, in this case, we’re focusing more on WordPress hosting since we’re looking for an alternative to WP Engine.
Price-wise? There’s no doubt Namecheap’s WordPress hosting, EasyWP, is certainly cheaper than WP Engine.
And the spec isn’t that bad too if you compare it with the WP Engine spec side-by-side.
While the spec for EasyWP may not be as good as the one you get at SetraHost, the EasyWP plan comes with free CDN.
Wondering why CDN matters to you?
If you want your website to load in other countries just as fast as it does in the US, then you will need CDN to do just that.
The only downside with EasyWP is that the plan is only for one site. You will need to sign up multiple times if you want to use EasyWP on more than one website.
Alternatively, you can opt for SetraHost’s WordPress hosting since they do have plans for multiple websites.

A note about using EasyWP if you already have a domain with Namecheap
Another thing that I always mention on this blog is the importance of getting your domain name and hosting plan separately.
Yes, I understand it’s convenient to have your domain name and hosting plan in one place.
And the setup process is much simpler too when your domain and hosting are from the same place where you got them.
But the downside with this kind of arrangement is that it makes a hostile takeover much easier to take place.
Imagine having hackers take over your domain ownership and claim it as their own.
Does hostile takeover happen for real is something that I’m not sure of. But I don’t see anything wrong with taking such a strong precaution.
And we all know how devastating it is when somebody is taking over something crucial to our business’ livelihood.
So, what you should do if you want to use EasyWP but don’t know other domain registrars that are as reliable as Namecheap?
I suggest you have a look at iwantmyname instead.
In case you’re wondering, it’s also another domain registrar that I used in the past.
The reason why I rarely mention it here is that it doesn’t run as many promotions as Namecheap does.
If you’re thinking about transferring your domain elsewhere, then I highly recommend iwantmyname.
