When you see the subtitle for The Latte Factor, you probably believe this book must be all about the money mindset shift.
Well, you’re not wrong to think that way considering that seems to be the case for books in this category.
But believe it or not, The Latte Factor is more than just about shifting your belief on what it means to be rich.
It also comes with the practical financial advice you can implement right away.
That’s a typical thing for a personal finance book, right?
Unlike books that come before it, there’s more to it than just advising on achieving financial freedom regardless of your income.
The way this book presents the information is nothing as you would expect in a personal finance book.
Heck, I will go as far as saying it doesn’t feel like you’re reading one because of how the information is being laid upon you.
You can’t help but want to read the book till the end because you feel like you have to.
That seems like a strange thing to say for a personal finance book, right?
I can’t say if this is the only book that conveys the information in such a manner.
But one thing I know for sure is this book does give you a fun ride over the topic that seems bland to many of us.
What The Latte Factor is all about
Here’s the book description that I got from Amazon.
Drawing on the David Bach’s experiences teaching millions of people around the world to live a rich life, this fast, easy read reveals how anyone—from zillennials to baby boomers—can still make his or her dreams come true.
In this compelling, heartwarming parable, Bach and his bestselling coauthor John David Mann (The Go-Giver) tell the story of Zoey, a twenty-something woman living and working in New York City. Like many young professionals, Zoey is struggling to make ends meet under a growing burden of credit card and student loan debt, working crazy hours at her dream job but still not earning enough to provide a comfortable financial cushion. At her boss’s suggestion, she makes friends with Henry, the elderly barista at her favorite Brooklyn coffee shop.
Henry soon reveals his “Three Secrets to Financial Freedom,” ideas Zoey dismisses at first but whose true power she ultimately comes to appreciate. Over the course of a single week, Zoey discovers that she already earns enough to secure her financial future and realize her truest dreams—all she has to do is make a few easy shifts in her everyday routine.
The Latte Factor demystifies the secrets to achieving financial freedom, inspiring you to realize that it’s never too late to reach for your dreams, proving once again that “David Bach is the financial expert to listen to when you’re intimidated by your finances” (Tony Robbins, #1 New York Times–bestselling author).
What got me to read this book
I won’t deny that I got the Kindle version of the book on Amazon when it was on sale.
Did I even read the book description before I clicked the buy button?
Sad to say, I didn’t.
But what causes me to have less resistance to clicking on the buy button is that I already knew about David Bach and the book through his appearance on Marie TV.
As you can expect, I didn’t buy the book right away after I saw his interview with Marie Forleo.
It was only when I saw the book on sale on Amazon that I remembered I wanted to get this book for so long.
What makes The Latte Factor worth reading
Let’s be honest here, this book must be worth the salt because it contains this one piece of advice, if not all, that works like magic, right?
Well, if only that’s the case.
If that’s your expectation, I have bad news for you – all the advice you see in this book is advice that you may already know from elsewhere.
Things like compound interest and the importance of paying your bills on time.
We all know about the wonders of compound interest on our retirement but is detrimental when you have a lot of debts.
And we all know all those late charges can add up over time if you let it be.
But how many of us actually take the time to remedy the situation?
This is what the book is trying to illustrate through Zoey’s point of view.
Not only do you get to learn how to make compound interest work in your favor and make the habit of paying yourself first on auto-pilot alongside Zoey.
But the book will also give you a rough plan on how you can make your dream a reality without needing a bigger paycheck.
And the best part of all? The book makes it easier for you to understand financial concepts through stories and diagrams.
If you’re looking for a personal finance book that gives you simple and on-point advice about personal finance but is still fun to read, then this book has it for you.
What you should know about the book
If you’re like me, then you probably don’t remember much of what Henry advises Zoey to do if she wants to afford the photo he sells at his shop.
Well, who would have imagined that a story about personal finance could be this gripping, right?
You can’t help but feel curious if Zoey’s life turns out for the better once she takes Henry’s advice to heart.
And let’s not forget about the unforeseen circumstance that hit her family while she’s trying to grasp what Henry is trying to convey to her.
Good news for you if you’re thinking about using Henry’s advice to Zoey as a reference – there’s a dedicated chapter just for that.
It’s only one page long. And it doesn’t include the action steps Zoey takes based on Henry’s advice.
But it should be enough if you need a refresher on what you should take to achieve financial freedom.
Who should read this book?
If you’re looking for simple yet practical personal financial advice that you can implement right away but still want an entertaining read, then this book is for you.
Even if reading personal financial advice isn’t your cup of tea, I still suggest you give it a read if you’re thinking about going into the creative nonfiction direction.
You’ll never know that reading this book may give you the spark to give writing creative nonfiction a try.
